Testimonials
“My sons, Brandon and Aaron have been training under Coach Hong Hui from MyFitnessComrade coming to a year. During this period of training, we notice big improvement in their basics, strokes and skills. Coach Hong Hui is very open to feedback and also constantly looking for ways to help our boys overcome their weakness. They have proven to make good use of their footwork now in their competitions and understands the importance of footwork more.
We are very happy and satisfied with the improvement, as I never thought that my sons could come so far. My sons are always looking forward to the training and they feel that Coach Hong Hui’s training has helped them a lot to excel better. There are no fanciful gimmicks but purely the willingness and sincerity to teach are what made the difference. A lot of their classmates have seen the improvement in them hence they have joined the academy for training as well. Let us give Coach Hong Hui a thumbs up!”
“I started playing badminton 2 years ago. For someone who had zero idea about footwork and strokes, I found it difficult to enjoy my game especially when I played against experienced players. I was told that I could improve by simply watching badminton video. However, you never master what you have learned until you put it into practice. This was when I realized that a proper training is very much needed
The coaches in MyFitnessComrade are very dedicated and observant of trainees’ performance. Because of the attention given, they are able to correct mistake committed on the spot. Also the coaches are friendly and often make the session an enjoyable one. After months of training, my friends have commented on my improvement when I play. Most importantly, I am now more confident on court as compared to few months ago! Special thanks to my coaches – Jian Dee, Hong Hui and Bryce
“I participated in the 2015 Morning Cup held in Taipei. Although I got knocked out in the 2nd round, I enjoyed playing in the competition but felt I needed to improve my game if I were to participate in future competitions in the region. I started looking for a coach when I came back to Singapore. I have seen coach JD in action a few times during local competitions and was impressed by his level of play. When I found out he coaches part-time in the evenings, I decided to try out his training for a few sessions especially since the charges were quite low.
I have since been training with him regularly for the past 6 months and rarely missed the weekly sessions. The training are tough. I struggled at the beginning but got better with each session. Compared to other coaches who emphasize more on practicing stroke play, coach JD emphasizes and allocates the 1st hour of each training session on footwork, court coverage and strengthening exercises. 2nd hour are mostly spent honing stroke play. The 1st hour of footwork drills are very important because if I can’t move quickly and efficiently, I will not be able to get into a good position to execute the shots I want.
I’ve recommended 2 friends to join JD’s training. They enjoy the training as well and are now regulars at the sessions. I’ll highly recommend coach JD’s training if you are looking to improve your game.
The first 15 minutes
Each session typically lasts for around 90 minutes, although this can be customised based on the needs of every trainee. Our training plans are flexible, and depends largely on the skill level, as well as the desired outcome of each client.
A session starts with warm up exercises and half court stroking that will last around 15 minutes. More than just getting the student into rhythm for the rest of the session, this is also an opportunity for the coach to identify potential areas for improvement. Students are also encouraged to initiate conversations if they have particular areas that they like to work on. This allows our coaches to better tailor subsequent lessons.

The NExt 60 minutes
Following that, coaches will rehash the fundamental in positioning with the student. For example, if the focus on a particular day revolves around the defensive aspects of the game, the next 15 minutes will be allocated to the practice of basic defensive stance and footwork drills.
After this, it will be 45 minutes of technical drills. This involve lifting in both fronts, as well as the different lobbing techniques. It is also during this window of time that the weakest parts of the client’s game will be worked on. If the client has troubles clearing to the base, or receiving smashes, then the coach will spend this period of time specifically working on this aspect of the game.

The Last 15 minutes
The last 15 minutes is perhaps the most intense part of the training. Sparring sessions will be conducted. For group lessons, players will be paired according to a partner that is most appropriate for their skill level. In one-to-one session, a sparring session will be held with the badminton coach himself.
Badminton is ultimately an endurance sports, which is why we place the sparring session right at the end. It is when we are most physically drained, that focus becomes essential. It is easy to have the right technique when we are full of energy. However, it is during the last moments of the game, where every point could end up deciding the game, that players are usually at the most vulnerable. That’s why we place extra attention on this facet of the game.

How we help
At MyFitnessComrade, we believe in working out the weakest part of the game. That is because badminton is an individual sports, which means that all aspects of your game is will be tested. Unlike team sports such as basketball or football, where individuals can become specialised in one area, badminton requires players to be proficient in all aspects.
Working on the weaknesses therefore have a much larger impact in the long-run. It provides greater benefits than simply refining the strengths of your game. That is the mantra at MyFitnessComrade, and all our coaches are passionate and dedicate to ensuring that you leave each session a better player than you were two hours before.
